I have over 30 years of experience in audio/visual design and operation for live performance events. I started out operating video camera (yes, black and white open-reel tape recording) and follow-spot for my high school musical theatre productions, seeding my passion for musical theatre. As someone who lacked the natural talent to perform in the cast, I honed my technical skills for design and operation of theatre sound and lighting in environments where budgets were low and equipment rudimentary.
These experiences led me into a formal tertiary education in Engineering,
graduating my Bachelor of Engineering - Electrical (Electronics and
Communications) in 1985. While working
full-time in the IT industry, I have continued to grow my experience in
audio/visual design and operations with specific focus in design and operations
for live performance events.
Having experienced the social and educational benefits
gained by children’s involvement in live performance experiences while
observing my own children grow in capability and self-confidence through participation
in school, church and armature theatre productions, I established Neil Moodie
Audio Visual (NMAV) to provide much needed quality technical design and
operations services at low cost to schools, churches and non-profit and
community theatre groups. Such organisations provide the opportunity for many
children to experience live performance from the performer’s perspective, but
they are often very much financially constrained. NMAV aims to help these
organisation achieve their goals of introducing young people to live
performance experience by providing high-quality equipment and services at an
affordable price.
